Your security system should be serviced as a minimum once every twelve months and may be a condition of your household contents insurance policy.

If the system is wireless then batteries should be replaced annually, and it is a British Standard requirement that the batteries in all control panels are replaced every five years. If they are not this could create a problem for you in the event of a power cut.

If your system is monitored by an alarm receiving centre and is capable of generating Police response then it is crucial that the service is carried out twice a year as laid down by the Police authority to ensure continuous response.

It is a legal requirement that fire alarms are checked twice per annum.
